Intimacy Coordination and Direction

Andy’s approach to intimacy is rooted in consent-based practices; in rehearsal and performance, she is committed to creating safer spaces where actors feel empowered to do their best work. While supporting the director’s vision, the emotional and physical safety of everyone involved is paramount.

Andy's experience as an actor, theatre director, and movement professional, combined with her background in psychology and advocacy, led her to the roles of intimacy coordinator and director. Her understanding of what it's like to be on both sides of the camera allows her to support both actors and directors, facilitating safe intimacy choreography, and storytelling, with care and efficiency.

Andy has completed Intimacy Directors and Coordinators, Intimacy Coordinator training, a SAG-AFTRA accredited program (certification pending). In addition, Andy has training in Trauma-Informed Practices, Bystander Intervention, Conflict De-escalation, Implicit Bias Recognition, Sexual Harassment Recognition and Prevention, Allyship, Anti-Racism, and Gender and Sexuality.

She holds a B.A. in Psychology, is certified in Mental Health First Aid, and has experience as a Victim Advocate working with victims of sex-based crimes. Andy is familiar with all union, state, and federal laws in regard to nudity and sexual performance standards.

She is an absolute joy in the rehearsal room. The actors had a lot of fun and felt very safe in her hands. Her grasp of the comedy of each of these moments was stellar, too!
